Today has been soooo nice after this hectic week! I took a shower, but I didn't do my hair, didn't put on makeup, I'm not even wearing real clothes - just sweats! And I spent the entire day in my bed after I cleaned my room and bathroom.
And what, you may ask, did I do for all that time? Honestly, lots of it was spent staring at the ceiling and just thinking. I'm convinced that I could lay somewhere and think for days. I don't get bored with it. All day my gramma has been offering suggestions of things I could do or eat and I just kept saying "that's okay" because I was perfectly content to eat nothing and just lay there.
But then I picked up Pride and Prejudice. Oh man. I hadn't actually read it before. I wouldn't say that it is any better than the movie, but actually being able to read the words was an awesome experience. And every girl says this but, guys! Get your read on because you could learn a thing or two from Darcy! Not so much from the first half, but definitely from the last half.
Let's take a moment to outline what exactly it is about Mr. Darcy that makes girls twitterpated:
1. He's open and honest - he speaks plainly about his thoughts and feelings. There is no guess work, you always know exactly what his intentions are. He's very straightforward, no beating around the bush. Even though he is kind of awkward about telling Elizabeth that he loves her, it's heartfelt and really moving.
2. He doesn't try to change Elizabeth but instead sees the worth in everything that she is.
3. He knows how to listen: let's be honest, women talk a lot! It's a lot of information to take in, we know. Mr. Darcy is a really great listener, and then applies what Elizabeth says to him. That is crucial men!
4. He knows how to apologize: that's pretty self explanatory. Even though Darcy is generally thought to be prideful, he is able to overcome that and recognize that he was dreadfully in the wrong.
5. He is not afraid to change: Elizabeth was very upfront with Darcy in what she saw his flaws to be and he took those criticisms to heart and was willing to become a better person. This ties in with the listening one. Men, when we can see that you have taken what we've told you and honestly tried to apply it and whatnot, that means a lot to us. Don't be too stubborn to see your faults and try to fix them and we'll do the same!
6. The way he speaks about Elizabeth when she is not around: Darcy defends Elizabeth publicly and even when she is not there. The fact that he is willing to stand up for her, that he speaks so kindly of her to others proves how much he really loves her.
7. His private actions to help Elizabeth - "I was thinking only of you" he says when Elizabeth asks why he did all that he did. Actions speak louder than words! Though we love hearing about how you feel more than almost anything, when your actions reflect those feelings as well, it means the world to us. Darcy did so much behind the scenes, without telling Elizabeth, to help her and her family simply because he wanted Elizabeth to be happy.
That about sums it up. Now, I'm not saying that I necessarily think every guy should be a Darcy because that would kind of be lot, and that's a lot of drama... But I think everyone, guys and girls, should strive to acquire some of his qualities. They aren't bad ones to have!
