Ancestors

peaceful feeling

I love that last line. How much love there must have been generation after generation as people were married and had children who fell in love and got married. In the process of creating my family tree, the world was filled with love. That is an incredible thought!

I wonder how many of my ancestors are looking down right now. I wonder how many of them are following me around and whispering things in my ear. You know what, I bet the majority of them are saying "Holy Moses, what is this girl doing with her life!? This is ridiculous. Someone needs to get through to her, she's not listening. Bring out the big guns! We'll get to her this time, even if it gives her a migraine!" That's definitely what is going on. It's got to be.

The other day I was watching a show called Who Do You Think You Are?, which is about celebrities finding out their ancestry and whatnot and figuring out where they come from. This latest episode, he said something that was really interesting. He said "I always wondered why I was interested in the stuff that I am" and I thought, "I don't think that comes from your ancestors" does it? I mean, do your interests and your personality get passed down from generation to generation? It just doesn't seem right to me... Children are so different from their parents and so different from each other that I can't imagine that their personalities were passed down. For example: I love music, we've established this. But neither of my parents are musically gifted, they don't even particularly like music. As far as I know, this is true for all of my relations. So where did I get it from? Couldn't have been passed down... It just - is!

There must be parts of us that aren't genetic, that don't get passed along from person to person, generation to generation. But if personalities and interests aren't genetic, then where do we get these elements? Must be our souls. Pre-packaged personalities! There are parts of us that are inherently who we are, without experience, genetics or education influencing them.

But no matter where our interests came from, our heritage is part of who we are and it is important to learn about and understand the lives of those who partook in getting you here in the first place! So think about it. How many spirits are following you around rolling your eyes at your decisions? Probably a lot. But they love you and only want the best so try to keep an ear open for their advice :)
