First of all, I got to skype with my mom, which I haven't done in FOREVER. It was really nice, I miss her...
And then later I got to see Kayla, my friend from back home! It was fantastic to see her again. She is hilarious and she just brought back so many memories. She was quoting things that I had totally forgot about! Suddenly I was thrown back into high school and Creative Connections and all those marvelous trips that we took and the memories that were made. It. was. great. I love her hahaha
What's even better? Is that she knew exactly what she wanted to do and I didn't have to make any decisions. No hemming and hawing, she said: "I want to do that melted crayon art" so we got in the car, went to Michael's and did exactly that.
I'm sure you've all seen at least once what I'm talking about. You know, those pictures that looks like a rainbow threw up all over a canvas? Yep! That's what we did! But mine didn't turn out like that. Maybe because I didn't do it like I was supposed to. Normally you would glue all the crayons in a line across the top. Well I glued mine in a chevron pattern across the middle, so I did everything wrong! But it turned out looking really cool.
At first I didn't like it, but it grew on me and now I'm rather proud of it!
Pay no attention to my face...
It reminds me of the dark forest from the Wizard of Oz. Or if it were to represent a state of mind, it would probably be stressed out/fragmented. That should be a summer project, creating crayon art for every state of mind!
But I digress.
Kayla's was really cool too, but sooo different from mine. She did it on a black canvas (apparently she is culturally minded and I'm racist... Shoot.) Her's was a lot smoother and calmer than mine. But still awesome! She added that flower for a nice effect. Really drew out the silver crayon that she used in the middle :)
I'm not going to lie, I was a little skeptical at first that ours were going to look any good, but I'm happy with how they turned out. It made a HUGGEEE mess though. There was crayon wax splattered everywhere. I mean, we didn't realize that this was going to make such a mess or we would have done it outside! There was wax in the tv speakers, all over the bananas, even stuck in the fur of the stuffed giraffe that is sitting on the counter. I mean, seriously, I think we will be finding crayon for days to come. But you know what, it was worth it! My gramma was so proud of my art that now it sits on her mantel :)
